Stage nine

Before I tell you about today. Last night walked 500 metres to taberna and dinner was on at 7.30 pm. A couple of beers ,and the choices were, Russian or potato salad, pig’s ear or knuckle stew or meatballs. We both had the meatballs and they actually tasted like meatballs. I have had the ears before and from memory they tasted alright. This morning, left in the dark, and at around 5 degrees, rain and pushing into a stiff cold wind I had the full arsenal on. Long sleeve tee shirt and singlet, poncho, scarf, mud runners, hat and gloves. Always wear shorts, regardless of the weather. After 3 ks El Pontarron. Had to warm up with a hot chocolate drink. Stripped away the gloves, long sleeve shirt and hat. It was only occasionally drizzle now so kept with the poncho. Travel was along the N 634,a minor highway. I wasn’t going to diddo yesterday, so I read and memorised a big part of today’s journey. After another 10 ks the track turned to a slippery stone and mud hill and eventually decending at 60 percent and steeper, it was quite scary. The last 500 metres was almost impossible without slipping over. Walked the next couple of kilometres in to Laredo and the sun was trying to show it self. Found a great place to eat and had one of the best hamburgers I have ever had. Leaving there,we only had a short walk to the ferry terminal, cross the bay, day over. Unfortunately as we left, the weather turned freezing and rain and wind joined in. Put all the arsenal back on and was told, ferry not operating. The alternative route was 15 ks around the bay. No way Hosay. We’ll catch a bus. No bus for two hours. So without cheating, we caught a cab. Shit I enjoyed that ride.
